Twenty-one percent of 135 companies polled last week by
Meetings & Conventions magazine have canceled events "as a direct result of the
bailout backlash against meetings and travel." Nine percent of the 135 respondents worked "with or for" firms that have benefited from federal support. The survey also found that 7 percent of respondents were "adopting new meeting policies ... to meet federal requirements" and 22 percent called the mass media coverage "extremely influential in our decisions."
