Re: 5Q With Robert Crandall
Almost by reflex, when Bob Crandall utters something for publication, I question its validity and his honesty. This report is far more eloquent and far less nasty than his usual observations. I think he deserves a good audience, particularly on surface transportation. I think that he missed an important point: surface transportation should be convenient to airports.
In several cities surface transportation is well-connected to air travel: ATL, PHL, EWR, BOS(?), STL, ORD, MDW. But usage is very modest. Airport employees make up the bulk of ridership. That's stupid!

Management Letters:Candall & Surface Transport - Dear Santa

Posted Dec 6, 2008 by
LAS
Dear Santa, Bob Crandall was a very good boy this year. He is absolutely correct that we need a rapid transit and more high-speed rail if we are going to conserve energy. Please give Bob a job because he is bored and make him the Car CZAR in Detroit for President-elect Obama. Bob will make those three car companies profitable again. Bob can create the rail infrastructure to the 2nd tier cities surrounding the major hubs i.e. high-speed rail to/from ORD within 125-mile area. Santa.... the business road warriors hate flyng in the RJs. Another request please.... Send $700M to President-elect Obama so that he can create the thousands of jobs in building the rail system for Bob. Thanks, Santa.
