Following up on Concur's announcement today of its $82 million to $120 million acquisition of TripIt, Concur CEO Steve Singh told Business Travel Media Group executive editor Mary Ann McNulty that at the time of the deal, Sabre Holdings was no longer an investor in TripIt. As such, Sabre would not own shares in Concur along with TripIt's other investors when the deal closes, which executives expect later this quarter. You had to figure such a conflict would have been cleared up, but since Sabre in 2008 participated in a $5.1 million investment in TripIt, what changed since then to our knowledge was not made public. Singh declined further comment.

Today, at Google's Campfire One "mega-do," TripIt's new Groups App was the only travel app included in the new Google Apps Marketplace. TripIt Groups brings transparency to business travel, allowing registered users (who choose to share their plans) to collaborate on their travel plans. The product provides business travelers within a company, division etc an easy way to see when, where and how fellow employees are traveling. In keeping with Google's mission to organize the world's information, TripIt is Google's choice for organizing travel.

When I asked TripIt execs last summer what kind of volume discounts their travel management company partners can offer clients on the Pro version of the company's itinerary solution, they didn't say. But according to Salt Lake City-based TMC Christopherson Andavo's blog: "We can get you a huge discount on your TripIt Pro annual rate (huge = almost half off)." The hottest tech story in corporate travel right now is the race to one-up traditional emailed itineraries with robust, interactive applications, and investors have taken notice with a fresh $7 million of investment in TripIt, announced Thursday.

This morning, Hotwire and TripIt announced a new partnership that allows Hotwire customers to fire their Hotwire itineraries directly over to TripIt using a button right on the confirmation page. This is development is significant not just because the guys working at TripIt used to work at Hotwire (oh, so did I!) but because it is the first OTA that has agreed to partner with TripIt.

From the Totally Useless Coincidences That Make For A Lame Excuse To Post A Blog Item category, here are a couple tidbits picked up this week that had to do with the number 28. I'm more of a 3, 13, 33 kind of guy myself, so in the interest of making no numerological sense at all ahead of this weekend when we Americans celebrate the birth of a nation, here are two on 28...

LinkedIn, which by all accounts is the most popular social network for business professionals, chose email itinerary service provider TripIt "as the only travel application in a new application platform designed to enrich the LinkedIn user experience," according to the companies. Directly linked to users' TripIt accounts, the new "My Travel by TripIt shows LinkedIn members where their entire professional network is traveling. Once the application is installed, users can create trips (on LinkedIn or on TripIt) and immediately see when those trips overlap with other people in their network."
A TripIt survey earlier this year found that LinkedIn was the most popular social service among TripIt users.
