United Airlines has "spared no expense" in preparing for the switch to a unified passenger services system, scheduled to occur before the end of the current quarter, according to senior vice president of worldwide sales Dave Hilfman. Following its merger with Continental Airlines, United opted to consolidate operations on Continental's pre-existing Shares system, furnished by HP.

Denver - Unionized employee groups for United Airlines and Continental Airlines on Sunday picketed in front of the Colorado Convention Center here just as the Global Business Travel Association was kicking off its annual convention. Chief among the flight attendants' and pilots' complaints are management's efforts to outsource more flying to regional feeder carriers. They also want pay raises, and they want United Continental Holdings CEO Jeff Smisek, appearing at the opening session of the GBTA conference, to hear their voices.

Continental extended to 2013 from 2011 the expiration of its Sabre global distribution agreement to coincide with merger partner United, a spokesperson confirmed.
With that, we've updated the Deadline Watch chart to the best of our knowledge. For Continental’s Amadeus deal, the United spokesperson asked us to replace the previous (and definite) 2011 expiration date in the chart with a very indefinite "ND." The companies wouldn’t elaborate on what's up there. The expiration of both Continental's and United's agreements with Travelport, meanwhile, coincide in 2013. Care to fill in any of the blanks in the chart? Drop me a line.

Re: Lufthansa Denies Improper Use Of Data
This sounds familiar, like a song we heard from a major U.S. airline more than ten years ago, that ultimately swept across the industry. We were told the intention was not to see anything inappropriate, but is that what is really happening? Back then, world events overtook the issue and domestic pricing became a minor issue and most everyone got in line.

Frankly, there is usually very little that shocks me about this industry. Surprises me, yes. Piques my curiosity, yes. But shocks me--no.
But I got caught out in left field on this one.
This afternoon Continental CEO Larry Kellner announced in a letter to employees, and in a press release, that he was leaving the company, effective the end of the year.
