United Airlines has "spared no expense" in preparing for the switch to a unified passenger services system, scheduled to occur before the end of the current quarter, according to senior vice president of worldwide sales Dave Hilfman. Following its merger with Continental Airlines, United opted to consolidate operations on Continental's pre-existing Shares system, furnished by HP.

"We're not currently seeing a reduction in business demand," United Continental Holdings CEO Jeff Smisek last Thursday declared during an earnings call. The operative word is currently, since a United filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that same day referred to "reduced demand from business travelers in the third quarter of 2011."

Business Travel News has rated Delta as the top airline. BTN surveyed over 400 corporations that spend over $500,000 per year on air travel. United/Continental was rated second. USAir was third. American was fourth.
Southwest was rated last in this survey. The reason for Southwest’s poor showing is probably directly related to the respondents of the survey.

Denver - Unionized employee groups for United Airlines and Continental Airlines on Sunday picketed in front of the Colorado Convention Center here just as the Global Business Travel Association was kicking off its annual convention. Chief among the flight attendants' and pilots' complaints are management's efforts to outsource more flying to regional feeder carriers. They also want pay raises, and they want United Continental Holdings CEO Jeff Smisek, appearing at the opening session of the GBTA conference, to hear their voices.

Gains in ancillary revenue have slowed considerably at United Continental Holdings, growing year over year by less than 1 percent during the second quarter on a pro-forma basis.

United Airlines parent UAL Corp. posted a second quarter profit of $273 million, emerging from a long financial slump and improving on some closely watched year-over-two numbers. The company cited favorable corporate and premium booking trends and particularly strong transoceanic performance. Analysts speaking with the company's executives on a Tuesday conference call sounded generally impressed. UAL's stock closed the day up more than a buck to $22.01. Why?
