Following up on Concur's announcement today of its $82 million to $120 million acquisition of TripIt, Concur CEO Steve Singh told Business Travel Media Group executive editor Mary Ann McNulty that at the time of the deal, Sabre Holdings was no longer an investor in TripIt. As such, Sabre would not own shares in Concur along with TripIt's other investors when the deal closes, which executives expect later this quarter. You had to figure such a conflict would have been cleared up, but since Sabre in 2008 participated in a $5.1 million investment in TripIt, what changed since then to our knowledge was not made public. Singh declined further comment.

A story in December discussed the compensation provided to Trip Davis, who at the time was replaced as CEO of TRX and became chairman of the company's board. Based on publicly available financial documents, The Beat's report "disappointed" one of our readers. "Why single out Trip, especially when the compensation of executives at most other major travel companies is usually greater, and the results of those companies are often no better than the results of TRX?" The list below shows the latest available compensation figures for a selection of men in the executive ranks of companies serving the business travel sector.

Concur executive vice president for technology Tom DePasquale is a bomb thrower, which of course makes him a favorite of we media types. What now? Well, I asked Tom late last month about complaints over the past couple years from online booking providers regarding Concur's proprietary approach to integrating online booking tools with its Concur Expense product. This was just before GetThere announced integration with IBM. Here's what he had to say:

EasyJet's newly reduced fee for bookings through Amadeus and Galileo is enticing Concur to book the British carrier through the global distribution systems. Concur executive vice president Tom DePasquale, who in March said Concur rejected the previously higher price, on Tuesday asked his development team to link Concur's Cliqbook to those GDSs for easyJet bookings after easyJet on Monday announced a cut in its point-of-sale fee to £3.30 (€4) per segment from "up to £5 (€7.50)" per segment.
"When easyJet first announced it, the economics made no sense to me and I was fairly outspoken about that," said DePasquale. "I think this is a more positive and constructive step than we're seeing out of Ryanair's hard stance. We should reward such constructive steps."
Such a GDS connection would typically take less than 90 days to enable, DePasquale said, but he didn't want to make an estimate in this case since the request was just made. Concur still has no plans to use easyJet's application programming interface, which requires fees that DePasquale said still do not "fit our economic goals."
