Expedia Further Stirs GDS Mix

[EDIT: We assumed wrong. The deal in Europe actually is with Worldspan.]

Expedia.com started using Travelport GDS in January for "select European points of sale." A spokesperson did not immediately respond to a question about whether the deal is with Galileo as opposed to Worldspan, but assuming it is, the agreement would represent Expedia's third new publicly announced GDS relationship over the past three years.

After years of working only with Worldspan, Expedia in 2004 said it had a deal with Sabre. In 2005, Expedia said it would use another GDS provider, which turned out to be Amadeus in Europe. Expedia later said it was considering a fourth.

The major loser in Expedia's "GDS diversification" program was Worldspan, although the switch to Sabre for Expedia Corporate Travel damaged customer service for a bit. ECT is not using Travelport as part of its parent company's new arrangement.
