Rock Stars Who Fly

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly may be one of the higher-profile travel industry execs who rock on after hours, but he's certainly not the only one. Gary Kelly & The Southwest Warriors Band of employees entertained about 3,000 SWA colleagues with "Kick Tail" at the company's 2009 Messages To The Field meeting earlier this month near Dallas. Entertaining fans in suburban Chicago is Bill Hogate and The Wild Bill Band. By day, Hogate is business development director wholesale USA for Mondial Assistance and formerly with Rearden Commerce, GetThere and United Airlines. Mondial Assistance CEO Jon Ansell also has his own in-house band--Tripp D'Lay and the Interruptions--that plays for fun, charity and team building about four times a year. A Computerized Airline Sales & Marketing Association meeting in Dallas this week featured The Lupners (yes, from the old Saturday Night Live skits), with Bill Maselunas, who pulled double duty as meeting emcee by day. CASMA meeting event coordinator D'Lane Maselunas (his wife) sourced him for both gigs. Rock on. [more]
